The Peruvian national tourist office provides information for domestic and foreign travelers, that covers destinations, attractions, street maps, recommended routes and registered tourism companies in Peru. It also provides assistance on various procedures or when tourists have problems of various kinds. It receives complaints, claims, and suggestions for destinations and tourism companies operating in Peru (lodging, travel agencies, cruisers, airlines, buses, etc).

Peru is a representative democratic republic divided into 25 regions. Its geography varies from the arid plains of the Pacific coast to the peaks of the Andes mountains and the tropical forests of the Amazon Basin.

Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian Inca site located 2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu is one of the most familiar symbols of the Inca Empire.
